Is it really possible for a baby to get a flat head if he stays on his back too much?
Lately I've been worried that my little boy isn't getting enough tummy time and will end up looking like a weirdo with a flat head. This all started when my mom insisted he takes naps on his side in order to prevent a weird shaped head. Well I tried that and he somehow manages to wiggle his way back to flat on his head almost every time.
So that leaves me with tummy time, right?
He HATES tummy time. Seriously HATES it. He'll handle about three minutes or so then he starts crying like I'm torturing him. It isn't fun for anyone and eventually I give in.
Really, check this out:
On tummy = angry baby.
On back = happy baby.
Oy. What's a girl to do? Is my child destined to have a flat head?
Yes they can totally get a flat head. I say try laying face to face with him during tummy time. Or putting toys in front of him. Or turning the music loud. Or wearing headphones while you watch him. Or making daddy do tummy time but it is so important. It's ok for them to be frustrated, that's how they learn to crawl and roll. Have you checked babycenter.com out for other ideas? PS they suggest NEVER laying your baby down to sleep on anything other than their back. If they roll themselves to side or stomach ( like 5ohbaby does) then that's ok.
ReplyDeleteLG's totally flat-headed. We rarely put her on her tummy (THE SCREAMING!!!), but luckily daycare has been putting her on her tummy for us (money well spent right there!)
ReplyDeleteYES! I've totally tried all of those things, except headphones! That sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSarah: I'm glad LG is the same way, maybe we can make it cool to be flat-headed!
